Booking A Wedding Band? What To Consider

Monday 4th May 2015

Everyone loves a good boogie! And what better way to kick-start your evening entertainment with a fantastic live wedding band?

The problem is – how do you choose one?!

There are lots of great bands out there and it can seem like an impossible choice, so here are our top tips on things to think about when booking your wedding band.

What would be your ideal band?

We have a massive choice of fantastic bands, so think about what your ideal band would be. Once you have an idea of the wedding band music style and the atmosphere you want, choosing the right covers band is a lot easier. A purely pop rock party bands may not be for you, if you also love the sounds of soul and Motown.

Here at Tailored Entertainment, we have bands in a huge variety of genres and musical styles from Indie Rock bands like Alive, to funk bands like Funk You! All our bands offer a sample repertoire and promotional video to ensure that they play the music you love.

We're also very happy to help with the selection process if you'd like some guidance on which band might work best for you, just give us a call on 0800 564 2240 and one of our live music experts will be happy to help.

But what will really get the party started?

It’s your big day, and of course, you want your favourite kind of wedding band music, but you also want your guests to have a fantastic time too.

You will probably have a big age range among your guests, so consider everybody when looking at bands and this will help inform your decision.

Think about what atmosphere you want to create.

If you want a real party mood, with everyone up and dancing, look at bands that play lots of floor-fillers and songs to suit a variety of ages.

The perfect party will include everyone!

Do you have a theme for your wedding?

Themed weddings can be great fun and a band that fits in with your theme can really set the scene.

Are you going for a vintage feel? Why not choose a quirky vintage-style band to make your wedding truly unique. We have a number of bands, such as Vintage Roots perfect for afternoon and evening entertainment, that will bring that touch of vintage class to your day.

Is going to a festival, listening to the likes of Mumford & Sons on a hot summer day your idea of heaven? Then why not bring the festival to your wedding and get one of our fantastic festival headliner-style bands like Festival Foxes and Smith & Sons to get your guests dancing all night!

Just want to dance? Keep all your guests on their feet with one of our fantastic party bands, like The Magic Tones and Academy Allstars, who play floor-fillers guaranteed to kick-start any party.

Afternoon music

Afternoon entertainment can often get forgotten about, but having live music throughout your drinks reception, or during the wedding breakfast can add a wonderful atmosphere.

Jazz music can create the perfect relaxed setting or perhaps an acoustic guitar and vocal duo? Take a look at the Ellis Jazz Trio and the Live Lounge Band for some acoustic inspiration!

Book ahead!

Like wedding venues, quality bands can get booked up well in advance, so start looking early! The benefits of using an agency, like Tailored Entertainment to book your band, is that if unfortunately, your favourite band is already booked, we will be able to help you find another band that meet your requirements.

Plan Your Budget

Live music can seem like a big expense, but your entertainment can really set the tone for your evening reception – you may find you are prepared to stretch your budget for that perfect band. Party bands start from £950 and can go up to £2235, but all our bands provide a disco service ensuring the party doesn’t stop when their set does. In addition, our bands are more than happy to learn your first dance, making it that extra bit special.

If your purse strings really are tied, try looking for bands that are very local to your area. If you love a band that is based 200 miles away, the overall cost will be more due to petrol, and travelling time. You may need to cut down on the size of band you are able to get, or how about combining your afternoon and evening entertainment? Getting one or two of the band to perform throughout your afternoon reception, as a solo instrumentalist or acoustic duo can be a great way to have music throughout the entire wedding, whilst not having to pay two different bands.

Above all, we want to help you create wonderful musical memories of your wedding day, so please get in touch with us and have a chat about what you’d like!
